The canvases are raw. Their weave is visible, untreated. Typically, they are primed to receive the pictorial layer—to enhance it, make it more opaque, even allow for glazing. Aníbal Vallejo’s works emulate prints, the arabesques of brocade fabrics. They have been pierced with needles, and threads protrude from them—seamstress-like embellishments. Some areas are drawn, others painted, and some are part of the original printed fabric.
